Preliminary information
Before we get to the heart of this tutorial and explain yourself how to share screen on Discordyou may find it useful to know which devices allow you to use this feature.
Well, at the time of writing this guide, screen sharing on Discord is only available from a computer and can be used both from a browser (function not available on Firefox), by accessing the official website of the service, and by downloading its official client. for Windows PC or macOS.
Either way, you can share thefull screen of your computer, one single window of a specific application or one single browser tab in use. As for the resolution of the broadcast, in the free version of Discord it is allowed to choose one of the available options between 480p And 720p.
To transmit with resolution to 1080pwith also the possibility of setting the transmission at 60 frames per second, it is necessary to activate a Nitro subscription (starting at $ 4.99 / month or $ 49.99 / year). The latter also allows you to take advantage of advanced features, such as the ability to customize your profile, have a storage space of up to 100 MB and much more. Is everything clear so far? For share screen to Discord from computer, start the official client of the messaging service and, if you haven’t already done so, log in to your account. Then enter your data in the fields E-mail And Password and click on the button Log into login.
If you don’t have an account yet, select the option Sign inenter the required data in the fields E-mail, Username, Password And Date of birthput the check mark to accept the terms of service and press the button Sign into complete your registration and log into Discord.
Now, select the item Friends in the left sidebar and select theuser with whom you intend to start a new video call. If, on the other hand, your intention is to share your computer screen in a group chat, click on the option New group chat (the icon of the speech bubble), at the top right, put the check mark next to the users to be included in the group in question and click on the button Create group chats.
Regardless of your choice, select one of the options available in the top menu between Start the call (the icon of the handset) And Start a video call (the icon of the video camera) and, in the new screen displayed, click on the item Share screen (the icon of one screen and an arrow).
At this point, all you have to do is select the source you want to transmit, choosing one of the options available from Applications (to share a specific application by selecting the one you are interested in) e Screens (to broadcast everything on your computer screen).
Once this is done, choose the resolution which do you prefer between 480p, 720p, 1080p And Sourceset i frames per second (15, 30 or 60) and click on the button On airto start casting your computer screen.
During the broadcast, by clicking on the button Screen located at the bottom left and selecting one of the available options from the menu that opens, you can either switch from one transmission source to another (Change windows) than to change the resolution set previously (Transmission quality). By choosing the voice instead Stop streamingyou can end screen sharing and continue the call / video call normally.
Finally, I point out that it is possible to share the screen of your computer also in a Discord server. All you have to do in that case is select the server of your interest, click on the option Voice channels and choose the channel in which you want to start screen sharing.
If, on the other hand, you want to create a new server, click on the button + in the left sidebar, select the option Create serverenter the first name in the appropriate field and press the button Create. For the detailed procedure, you can check out my guide on how to create a server on Discord.
At this point, click on the button Screenchoose the transmission source from Applications or Screensset the resolution you prefer and press the button On airto start screen sharing.
How do you say? Do you prefer to share your screen on Discord directly from your browser? In this case, connected to the official website of the messaging service, click on the button Log inat the top right, enter your account details in the fields E-mail And Password and press the button again Log in, to login. Again, if you don’t have an account yet, select the option Sign in to create one.
Now, all you have to do is select theuser with whom you intend to share your screen and create a sharing group or access a specific server, as I indicated in the previous lines. Once this is done, click on the button Start the voice callto start an audio call, or Start the video callto start a video call, and click on the option Share screen (or on the button Screenlower left).
At this point, if you are using Chrome or Microsoft Edgeselect the transmission source of your interest among those available: Chrome Tab / Microsoft Edge Tab to share a single browser tab by selecting the one you are interested in; Your full screen to share everything on your computer screen or Application window to show a single window of a specific application.
Once you’ve made your choice, put the check mark next to the option Share audioto also share the computer audio and click on the button Shareto start sharing the previously chosen source.
If, on the other hand, you are using Safaribe aware that the broadcast source cannot be selected and the entire computer screen will automatically be shared.
As I indicated in the lines dedicated to screen sharing using the official Discord client, even by starting a transmission from the browser it is possible to change the transmission source at any time.
To do this, click on the button Screenbottom left, and choose the option Change windows. By pressing instead, on the item Stop streaming/Stop sharingyou can end screen sharing and return to the “normal” call / video call.
As I mentioned in the opening lines of this guide, can’t share screen to Discord from phone (or from tablet). In fact, this feature is not available either using the official app of the messaging service for Android and iPhone / iPad devices or via a browser, not even by activating the desktop version of the Discord site.
However, you can view another user’s screen sharing broadcasting from their computer, either in a single or group chat or by logging into a specific server. In that case, all you have to do is access the call / video call in question and tap on the option Watch the live. Easy, right?
