You started playing the PlayStation 4 with your friends, and you realized you need software that allows you to communicate effectively. Although the PS4 offers the party function, which allows the user to talk to other gamers, in some situations it does not seem to be the best solution, also because lately the games in circulation are more and more often multi-platform. This means that, as the players come from different platforms, it is not possible to use the voice chat included in the system of the Sony home console.
For this reason, you’ve done some research online and found a possible solution in Discord, a VoIP application that allows gamers to stay in touch during gaming sessions (and not only) compatible with most operating systems and devices, such as Windows, Android and iOS. However, checking the PS4 store you didn’t seem to see the service in question and, therefore, you are wondering if it is possible download Discord on PS4.
Well, your doubts are well founded: a Discord application for PS4 is not available. But don’t worry, it is possible to use Discord through its web version, which also works from the PS4 browser (with some limitations, which I will tell you more about later). If, therefore, you want to deepen the subject, make yourself comfortable and read carefully everything I am about to tell you. Preliminary information
Before I illustrate you how to download discord on ps4, or rather, how to use this service from the Sony console, I want you to know that there are some small checks to do. First, to enjoy Discord on your PS4 it must be connected to Internetas it is an online service.
To check the connection of the PS4, head inside the settings of the console by pressing the icon in the shape of carrying case located at the top right of the main menu, then continue on Net > Check Internet Connection.
If your PS4 is connected to the internet a screen will open containing all the information about your connection. Otherwise, always within the menu Netpress on Configure Internet Connectionthen select the connection type that you intend to use (Wifi or through LAN cablethe latter connection is preferable in terms of stability), choose the type of configuration that you intend to perform (I recommend typicalif you don’t know where to put your hands) and, in the case of a Wi-Fi network, select the connection to use and enter the access key.

How to use Discord on PS4
After learning some important Discord concepts and checking your connection PS4you can finally find out how to use Discord. The operations that I will show you are very simple to carry out and will not take you a lot of time.
Set up your browser correctly
Before accessing Discord and performing all the necessary operations in order to enable the service, you must take care to check the settings of the PS4 browser. In particular, access the Internet browser of the PS4, by pressing on the relative application located in the main menu.
If you don’t find the application, go inside the Collectionhead up Applications and locate Internet browser. After starting the application, press the key Options on the controller to open the menu Optionstap on Settings and make sure the item Enable JavaScript is ticked (otherwise do it).
Create an account on Discord
At this point, you just have to log into to Discord and continue with the account setup. Using the application Internet browser type, in the search bar at the top, discord.com and press the button R2 to give Enter.
Now, within the main Discord screen, you can log in or, in case you don’t have an account, create a new one. To log in, move the cursor over the button Log in and come on Enter; then, enter thee-mail and the password and press on Log in.
If, on the other hand, you need to create an account, click on the button Sign inlocated at the bottom, under the button Log in. Next, enter the requested data, that is yours e-mailyour usernamethe password and the date of birth. After accepting the terms of use, presses on Go on to confirm the account creation.
After logging into Discord you will have access to all the features offered by the service. Within the main screen you will find various sections, each with a different utility. In the sidebar, on the left, you can find the list of all friends ei messages exchanged.
For add a friend on Discord, press the button Add friend in the center of the screen and type the first name of the user to send an invitation to. Inside the right sidebar, however, there are all the activities made by your friends (for example what game they are playing at a specific moment). To change any settings regarding the profile, or the app in general, press the icon in the shape of gear placed at the bottom right, next to your username.
Also, I inform you that on Discord you can create a server, which will allow you to talk to your friends during a gaming session, schedule an activity and initiate individual or group calls. Use text chat on Discord
As I explained to you at the beginning of the guide, using Discord on the PS4 you will only be able to trade text message with your friends, or start a group chat.
To start a conversation with a friend, press on bar with written Find or start a conversationtop left, and type the first name of the user. After that, a new screen will open where you can exchange text messages, send GIFs or emojis.
I remind you that once you have created a serveryou can send text messages to anyone who is part of it, being a group chat.
Use voice chat on Discord
Although it is not officially possible to start a voice chat using Discord on PS4, there is a method that will allow you to use the most requested functionality of the software.
All you have to do is follow my advice carefully and retrieve some devices needed to solve the problem. In particular, what you need is: a pair of headphones with optical cable and a USB porta Mixamp for switching audio from PS4 to PC, a 3.5mm jack cable it’s a PC.

Once you have all the necessary material, connect the end of the optical cable at the PS4 and al Mixamp. Once this is done, go inside the Settings of the PS4, by pressing the icon in the shape of carrying case located in the main menu, continue on Audio and display> Audio output settings> Main output and select Digital Out (Optical).
Next, plug in the USB cable to the PC and al Mixamp and make sure the latter is in PC mode (you can check the appropriate lever on the device).
At this point, open Discord on your computer and head inside the Settingsby clicking on the icon gear. Then go to the section Voice and video and select, within the option Input devicethe Mixamp.
Well: now you just have to click on the icon in the shape of X, to save the changes and exit the settings. From now on, you will be able to talk freely with your friends on Discord while using the PS4. However, by doing this, you may no longer hear any kind of PC audio, as the PS4 will be prioritized as main audio via the Mixamp. Thankfully, there is a very quick and easy fix to this too.
All you need to do is use the 3.5mm jack cableby inserting it into the headphone port of the PC he was born in Mixamp. Next, head to the Settings Discord on your PC, continue on Voice and video and set as output device the speakers.
