Preliminary operations
To create a Discord server you must first register for the service. It is possible to create a free account both from smartphones and tablets, using the official app of the service for Android and iPhone / iPad devices, and from a computer.
In the first case, start the Discord app, press on the item Sign inenter the required data in the fields What name do you want to use?, E-mail And Passwordput the check mark to accept the terms of service and the privacy policy and tap the button Create an accountto complete the registration.
If, on the other hand, you prefer to register on Discord from a computer, connected to the official website of the service, click on the button Log inat the top right, and select the option Sign in. In the new screen that appears, enter your details in the fields E-mail, Username And Passwordput the check mark next to the item I declare that I have read and accept Discord’s terms of service and privacy policyand click on the button Go onto create your account.
It will be useful to know that the official Discord client for Windows PC and macOS is also available, which you can download by connecting to the main Discord page and clicking on the button Download for Windows or Download for macOS. Again, to create a new account, simply select the option Sign infill in the registration form and click on the button Go on.
Regardless of the device used to sign up for Discord, to verify the account you just created, log into your inbox emaillocate the email sent by Discord and press the button Verify email contained within it, then put the check mark next to the option I am not a robotto verify your identity, and select the option Continue on Discordto start using Discord.
How to create a Discord server from smartphones and tablets
The procedure for create a Discord server from smartphones and tablets it’s quick and easy. All you have to do is press the button to create a new server, specify its name and, if you wish, upload a photo to use as a preview image.
Then take your device, start the Discord app, by tapping on its icon on the home screen or in the drawer and, if you haven’t done so yet, access your account by pressing the button Log in and entering the data in the fields E-mail And Password.
Now, press the button +at the top left, select the option Create server from the menu that opens and, in the new screen that appears, enter the name of the server you are creating in the field Server name. If you wish, click on the option Load and select an image to associate with your server, then tap the button Create serverto create your new server.
At this point, in the section Your friendspress the button Invitation related to the friends you intend to invite to your server or enter the name of the users of your interest in the field Invite friends on #generale. Alternatively, you can manually spread the link of your server by tapping on the item Copy sharing link.
In the latter case, however, it is also necessary to set a link expiration and the maximum number of people who can access the server through the link in question. To do this, click on the icon gear wheel and, on the screen Link settingsselect the options of your interest in the sections Expiry after (Never, 1 day, 12 hours, 6 hours, 1 hour And 30 minutes) And Maximum uses (1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 And Infinite).
Also, by moving the lever next to the item Temporary registration from OFF to ON, you can activate the function that allows temporary access to the server for users who have received the invitation. When they first log off, they will automatically be ejected from the server.
Once the creation of your new server is complete, you can change its settings at any time and also create new custom channels (i.e. chats that allow you to talk about different topics within the same server).
To do this, go to the section Direct messages by pressing on the icon speech bubbleat the bottom left, tap onpreview image related to your server, tap the i icon three dots and select the option Settings. In the new screen that appears, choosing one of the available options (Overview, Moderation, Activity log, Channels, Members, Roles, Ban etc.), you can change the name of the server, set the region (ex. Europe), specify rules to be able to send messages in the various channels, view the latest user activity, delete the server and much more.
For example, if you want to view the complete list of users registered on your server, access the section Settingslocate the item User management and press on the item Members, to view all users of the server. Pressing on the first name of a user, you can change their role (Change roles), delete it from the server (Eject) or ban it (Banna).
If, on the other hand, you want to create a new channel within your server, click onimage associated with the latter and tap the button + related to the option Text channelsto create a channel in which to communicate via text messages, or by voice Voice channels, to create a channel for voice communication. Then enter the channel name in the appropriate field and press the button Createto create the new channel on the selected server.
How to create a Discord server from a computer
For create a Discord server from your computer you can proceed both from the web version of Discord and through its official client. In both cases, the procedure is almost identical to what I have already indicated to you in the lines dedicated to creating a server from smartphones and tablets.
To create your first server on Discord from a browser, connected to the official website of the service, click on the button Log inat the top right, enter your account details in the fields E-mail And Password and press the button Log in, to login. If, on the other hand, you have installed the official Discord client on your computer, start the latter and log in to your account, entering the data in the fields E-mail And Password.
Now, whether you are proceeding from a browser or using the Discord software for Windows PC or macOS, click on the button +at the top left, and select the option Create server from the opened menu. Then enter the server name in the appropriate field, click on the item Change iconif you want to customize the preview image of the server you are creating, and click on the button Createto create the new server.
At this point, press the button Invitation relative to the friends you intend to invite to the server you just created, otherwise click on the button Copy, to copy the invitation link and send it to the users you want to include on your server. In the latter case, selecting the option Edit invitation linkyou can set the expiration of the link via the drop-down menu Expiry after and specify how many people can join your server via the link in question (Maximum number of uses).
To access the server settings, instead, press onserver icon of your interest, click on the icon arrow pointing down (visible next to the server name) and select the option Server settings from the menu that opens. By choosing the voice instead Create channelyou can create new text and voice channels in your server.
In case of doubts or problems
If you have followed the instructions I gave you in the previous paragraphs but you still have some doubts regarding opening a server on Discord, you can access the Help Center section of the official website of the service and select the option Server configurationto view the FAQ relating to Discord servers and find the answers you are looking for in complete autonomy.
If, on the other hand, you want to report a problem and receive assistance, click on the item Submit a requestselect the option Help and support using the appropriate drop-down menu, enter your email address in the field Email address and select the question of your interest using the drop-down menu Question type.
Finally, specify the subject of your request, enter the problem encountered in the field Descriptionindicate on which device you are having problems via the drop-down menu System and press the button Sendto send your request.
