Discord will pass on 90% of the game’s value to developers

Discord announced last week that its online game store will give developers 90% of the game’s value. The amount is higher than Steam, its main competitor, which delivers from 70% to 80% of the amount paid – depending on the amount of value generated by the title in the sale of the game and any items purchased within it.

The company, which became famous with the chat application and which made Valve evolve its own chat system, is even ahead of Epic Games, which announced that its store will allocate 88% of the value to the developer and 12 % for Epic.

The change in value may be a response to the stampede of companies that are paying more attention to their own store, leaving Steam emptier – as is the case with Ubisoft, Blizzard, and EA. This same thought made Epic give up the Play Store when distributing Fortnite on Android.

“Why does it cost 30% to distribute games? Is this the only reason developers are building their own stores and apps to distribute games? It turns out that it doesn’t cost 30% to distribute the titles,” comments Discord in a note.

Last month Valve changed the payment system for developers who sell through Steam, no longer charging 30%. The rule went into effect this month and passes 70% of the transaction to all creators, increasing to 75% when the title reaches a total sales value between $10 million and $50 million. Moving past $50 million, Valve starts sending 80% to the developer.

Epic and Discord’s new strategies are more beneficial to the developers who create the games, but Steam still has the most users who buy the titles and make microtransactions within them or u can see connect Spotify to Discord
